Abstract

Bagan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Myanmar, faces pressing socioeconomic challenges despite its cultural significance and growing tourism sector. This thesis proposes a Center for Community Development that addresses local
needs for education, vocational training, social welfare, and cultural preservation, while respecting the architectural identity of Bagan. The design integrates traditional Burmese aesthetics with sustainable, multifunctional spaces to
empower local communities and enhance resilience. Through comparative analysis of global precedents and a context-sensitive design approach, the project aims to bridge the gap between heritage conservation and modern community development, offering a replicable model for culturally rooted, socially inclusive architecture in heritage-rich regions.
